Hi friends! If you like soft, subtle color combinations on your cardmaking projects, then I’ve got some fun techniques with a new-to-me coloring medium.
On the weekend, I hosted a Webisode featuring the Matt Chalk Polish from Creative Expressions. You can see the video here, with technique demonstrations, and scroll down for project photos.
What is Matt Chalk Polish?
Good question! Matt Chalk Polish is a water-based, fast drying medium from Creative Expressions.
This medium has a fabulously creamy, mousse-like consistency. Apply it to white cardstock and you’ll create a chalky, matte, opaque effect. The jars you see above give you an idea of the colors (Aqua, Harbour Haze and Baby Pink); the top pops off so you can access the built-in sponge applicator.
How can I use Matt Chalk Polish?
You can simply color plain white card with this medium; you can also use a spatter brush to splatter it. On the card below, I’ve first colored white cardstock with Aqua, then spattered it with Baby Pink. You can also use a small brush to paint in white areas of patterned paper, as I did by coloring some of the flower centers Baby Pink. Note: The chipboard swirl accents are also colored with Baby Pink.
You can stencil with Matt Chalk Polish, as I’ve done here with Aqua and the Sunflower Rays stencil. While the Thankful chipboard piece has been colored with Baby Pink, the frame was simply inked with black.
You can also stencil on top of patterned paper—see the Baby Pink stenciled over the gray patterned design? I used the Cogs and Wings stencil for that.
I’ve also over-stenciled this tone-on-tone patterned paper with Harbour Haze and the English Garden rose stencil.
The projects were made for the May 17, 2020 Paper Wishes Weekly Webisode. You can click here to see the video. Enjoy!
All projects used the Blushing Blooms paper pack, Pink Ink stencils, Swirls Chipboard and Words Scrapbooking Dazzles. All supplies are available at Paper Wishes.
