Today I want to show a closer look at the PaperArtsy Eclectica ESN stamp set, and share with you one of my favorite ways to create a bold, colorful image.
You have lots of options when it comes to coloring in stamped images—acrylic paints are fabulous (you can see these butterflies with Fresco Finish paints here)… another favorite for me is Watercolor Brush markers.
The ones I’m using are from Altenew, and they are a staple in my crafting stash. I’m mixing and matching between the Tropical Fiesta set and the Winter Wonderland set. I’ve had these two sets for ages, and use them a lot—they’re super quality and have lasted me a good long time. The color is bright and vivid, and the pen format makes them easy to use.
First, I stamped the image with Obsidian Black ink, then embossed it with clear embossing powder. This is important! 🙂 The embossed design acts as a resist, so the watercolor won’t smear or smudge the stamping. Here’s an example—
I’m stamping on patterned cardstock from the Plum Grove collection from 49 and Market, which is super-sturdy and takes wet medium beautifully.
Here’s another option. This time, I’ve stamped and embossed the butterfly collage onto the cardstock, then stamped the design a second time and cut out the butterfly to color and foam-tape onto the main image.
After you cut out the butterfly, you might notice a white edge. You can easily color that with a regular black marker.
Then just layer the butterfly on top of the collage.
And while the butterflies are beautiful, you can also use just the quote from the stamp set as a card focal.
Thanks for visiting—hope you enjoyed the ideas! See you again next time!
