From the Webisode: Handmade Cards with Day Dream Style

Spring has sprung in Hamburg—the sun is out and the birds are singing! This week I’m excited to share two additional cards (see above) using the Day Dream collection I taught with earlier this month on my Saturday with Sara Webisode. I’ll show a few more of the Webisode’s cards below, too.

To see hands-on demos, just pop over to Paper Wishes to watch the Day Dream Webisode.

Here are the supplies I’m using:

The Day Dream collection comes from Uniquely Creative—a brand with really sweet paper designs and beautiful coordinating accent pieces. The elements are easy to mix and match, and can be used for classic clean-and-simple cards as well as more layered designs.

I love using the leaves in the Meadow Blooms dies as accents for all kinds of cards, especially when the leaves are die-cut from the sequin cardstock. This cardstock, from Paper Wishes, is no-shed glitter, and gives a beautiful sparkly effect that doesn’t end up all over your craft room. That it die-cuts fairly detailed images is another plus!

Here you can see the two sequin cardstock leaves, simply tucked in among the printed die-cut accents: The bird, large flower cluster, and single pink blossom. Everything is placed on top of a label die-cut from faux-texture pink cardstock, and added with layers of foam tape for dimension.

With these two cards, you can see I’ve incorporated similar techniques and layout styles, also featuring the sequin cardstock for the leaves as well as the border across the center of the “thank you so much” card. As for the “hello!” card on the right, I’ve added a die-cut scalloped frame for the butterfly focal, and used the edge of the large scalloped rectangle to create a scalloped edge. (I demo that in the Webisode, at about 11:35 into the segment.)

That same scalloped edging technique is on the “hello today” card on the right. It easily frames those 6″x6″ papers (great when you’re working with a larger card base) and it’s a fun way to incorporate specialty papers in general.

The “congratulations” card is a super-simple design with two patterned papers divided by a strip of sequin glitter cardstock, and a large focal die-cut. Again, I have more of those leaf die cuts from the Meadow Blooms die set, this time cut from different colors of green cardstock.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s collection of spring-themed cards! Don’t forget to check out the demos and even more ideas and techniques, on the Day Dream Webisode.

See you next week!
