Gel Plate Layering with PaperArtsy

Hello friends! Today I have a simple spring-themed card to share with you, featuring some of my new PaperArtsy stamps and stencils, their Fresco Finish paints, plus Grunge Paste and a new obsession for me: Ranger’s Quick Cure Clay.

This simple style of background is one of my favorites. I brayer acrylic paint (in this case, Frosty and a bit of Lemon Meringue) onto a Gelli Plate. Mine is 3″x5″, which makes a perfect focal area on a card. I made a print by pressing a piece of sturdy white cardstock on top of the Gelli Plate, then lifting off.

Tip: You can make a gel plate print with any kind of paper—newspaper looks cool, so does old book paper, and printer paper is great as it’s inexpensive and gives really nice results. I often use Smoothy or other cardstock. The only paper you want to avoid is glossy cardstock or photo paper as the coating gets stuck in the paint.

After that’s dry, I used a stipple brush to stipple the leaf design from the PS218 stencil with Verdigris paint. When that was dry, I used a Splatter brush to splatter watery Sugar Plum paint onto the cardstock, then placed silver WOW Fab Foil on top. Pop it under a book or other heavy item and let the paint dry so the foil will stick.

Then, I used uncolored Grunge Paste to stencil the PS219 dots on top. The sentiment is from ESN47 and it’s stamped in black ink.

As for the Quick Cure Clay… well, this is a new favorite for me. QCC from Ranger is a clay that cures with a heat tool. So, simply roll the clay into a ball, then press to flatten slightly. (Wear gloves to protect your hands!) Press to stamp the ball onto the script portion of one of the stamps from ESN47. You don’t need to treat the stamp beforehand… simply stamp the clay into it.

When you’re ready to cure your clay piece, simply place it onto a heat-resistant surface like a craft mat, then heat set with a heat tool. You will see a wisp of smoke, which is normal, and the item will look like it’s liquifying. Turn off the heat tool and the piece will cure. Be careful, as it’s super-hot to the touch. Then, paint with acrylic paints. After the paint dried, I used a bit of gloss sealer to give it some shine.

Then, just use a bit of craft glue to add to the card.

Enjoy!
