Monday Inspiration: Pics from Art & Soul Virginia

Art & Soul Virginia—what a blast!

The students were great, the other teachers had some amazing classes, and the venue offered huge suite rooms (perfect for spreading out art supplies) and a gorgeous view of the ocean. And although I was there when the weather was pretty rainy and windy…well, I’m from Oregon and that’s the kind of beach weather I’m used to anyway! The view was to die for, though.

Okay, not so much talk—just pictures from my Lazertran and Narrative Jewelry classes. Nope, none from the Journal of Musings…I think you’ve seen people writing before! 🙂

Here are a few pics of student work from my Narrative Jewelry class—

(The pieces are perched on yogurt lids while the Ice Resin sets…yes, I should have photographed them before we put the resin in!)

We had a LOT of fun with these--the sheet music is the student's own (borrowed from a friend) and the little face is cut from a magazine.

More student work—beautiful!

And from the Lazertran class…

One student's work...beautiful ephemeral image combined with found poetry words.

Love these colors!

This student's photo is perfect for this technique, and I love the ghostliness of the image.

This student planned to add rhinestones and pom pom fringe to this piece to accentuate the fairground/carnival theme.

This piece has a beautiful vintage postcard effect that I just love.

These two pieces are also incorporating pattern and design on top of the photos...the doily is actually from the hotel rooms (they put the glasses on them) and the dots on the piece on the right are made with bubble wrap and paint. How cool is that bicycle image, anyway?

One of our Lab Time exercises—this student really created a stunning example.

Apologies for the too-dark photo, but I wanted to show this very cool example of using the Lazertran pieces in altered books. (And this book has a story all it's own!)

I just adore this piece...the photo is stunning and the layering and pattern of paint is perfect.

I’m just now posting because although I got home on Wednesday morning, the flights back from Norfolk were pretty brutal: A three-hour wait on the tarmac followed by a mad sprint through JFK, only to be faced with a missed flight to Amsterdam. I wanted to take a few days off to chill out with Anna and get myself sorted before jumping into things again!

Happy Monday!

  1. I’m so bummed that your trip home was not wonderful….3 hours? But being home with Anna will really be helpful to de-stress!

Thank for a great class (Lazertran) & how fun to see my green/turquoise piece here! I am still waiting for it to arrive since I sent a box home with all my class projects, but it has not gotten here yet. I want to play more!

Again, thank you for a relaxing day with you and for your expertise!

  2. Hi, Sara,
I loved your Lazertran class; and I was tickled to see 3 of my pieces in your post! I haven’t finished them yet but I have finishes in mind for all of them. The snowy tree picture(my favorite) will have a bit of off-white lace trim. Can’t wait to get my Lazertran paper.
Thanks for the very enjoyable class; it was one of my favorites at A&S.
