After several months of planning, organizing, preparing, filming and editing (okay, that part will get done this week), my online Found Poetry Collage workshop is available in the Creative Workshops store!
The workshop is $55.00 and it starts on January 23. (I think that’s a perfect time of year to cozy up with a class, since the holidays are over and the weather is usually pretty uninspiring, at least around here.) But if January 23 doesn’t suit your schedule, you can sign up whenever works for you, no worries.

Found Poetry is simply combining words (those clipped from books, handwritten or computer-generated) with images to create collage pieces that tell a story. You don’t have to be a poet, or a writer, to enjoy this technique!
In this class, we’ll start with the basics of Found Poetry collage (including where to find books you’re willing to cut apart). You’ll learn my tips for finding collage-friendly words, organizing them and arranging them in various types of poems, from minimalist to a “magnetic poetry” style.
I’ll guide you through three Lab Time exercises, where you’ll get hands-on experience highlighting text, using text as a background in combination with a variety of texturizing techniques, and overwriting onto text paper. It’s a great way to learn techniques on a “practice” piece rather than the real thing!
I’ll then create two found poetry collages: One minimalist, and one that’s more involved. I’ll talk you through my process as I put the pieces together.
