Must-Have Monday: Adhesives

I have a lot of craft products. What, you too? I’m sure between you and me we could open our own warehouse! For this blog series I wanted to put my crafty stash to good use and talk about some of the products I never put away. (Not because I’m that messy–but because I’m using them!)

Today: The necessary-but-not-so sexy topic of adhesives. We need them, we all have favorites and we’d be lost without them. Yet rarely do they get the attention they deserve. Okay, let’s talk glue!

Mod Podge: Hands-down my favorite for collage work. A light (light!) coat on paper or canvas, with paper elements placed on top—such a simple and easy way to create artful pieces. Mod Podge is inexpensive, easy to use and lasts a long time. More important, it works. This is on my supply list for any collage classes I teach and the one I always use for collaging.

Glue Stick: A basic glue stick is a must for me—I use it for attaching paper to paper. Yet I’m very fussy about my glue sticks, having bought some that simply did not work. Pritt is my choice, since it always works and somehow doesn’t seem as gloppy as other glue sticks.

Sticky Dots: You know these little dots? I most often use them to tack down corners of paper, but they can also be used to add buttons and other embellishments. I choose Zots or Glue Dots. I like the thin kind, personally.

White Craft Glue: I always seem to pull out the craft glue—mostly for adding knotted pieces of ribbon or sealing paper before adding ICE Resin, or attaching small things onto paper. Aleene’s is my choice, mostly because it works so well but also partly because I remember using it when I was a little girl, making clothespin dolls with my mother.

Double-sided tape: My favorite is the kind that comes on a roll—the kind you can tear, with the easy-peel liner. This is what I use on a daily basis, securing paper to paper. I looooooove double-sided tape.

Foam tape: This was the item I most often requested from the States…until I found a local source here in Poland! Now I don’t have to use my foam mounting tape quite so sparingly. This is great for popping up accent pieces, layering die-cut elements and even (when I’ve got a good stash) giving whole pieces of layered paper dimension.

Clear tape: Yep, just the plain old clear (or “cello”) tape. I often wrap a ribbon around a piece of cardstock, and I use this tape to secure the ends to the back before attaching it to the card front. (For that part, I’ll use double-sided tape.) Plus this is just good to have on hand, don’t you think?

So those are my sticky supplies, always stashed in a repurposed plastic produce box on my work table. The box is clear so I can always just grab what I need.

Happy Monday!
