Last week I was in Frankfurt, meeting my 17-year-old niece who’s visiting us from Oregon. I had part of a day to myself and wandered through some of the museums clustered on the bank of the river. Just as I left the Communications Museum, the clouds grew dark and a few drops of rain spattered down before a true and proper rainstorm took over. Looking up at the dark sky and the gray facade of this apartment building, I saw a little touch of the tropics with this ruffly purple umbrella breaking up the monotony of gray. (And notice how the circular shape of the umbrella breaks up the lines of the windows and outside walls, too? A balance of linear and circular: I love finding design elements like this randomly out in the world!)
Happy Friday—hope yours is a bit sunnier!
