This month we’re showing our 17-year-old niece around Poland and a bit around Europe. On Sunday we headed to the European Solidarity Center “Roads to Freedom” exhibition, which documents the famous Gdansk shipyard strike and protest that subsequently brought about the fall of Communism in Poland. The center is fascinating—a definite must-do if you’re in the area; it always intrigues me how history is often as recent as twenty years, or even a day or two ago.
Despite being three and having no sense of history whatsoever, Anna enjoyed the interactive exhibits and spent most of her time either pointing out letters on the displays or ogling the giant statue of Lenin. I took this quick snapshot at the exhibition. Anna was a bit blurry so I messed about with it in Instagram and changed the color to a sepia tone. Now I love the sense of movement as she’s in motion but the writing is still perfectly clear. And I’m pleased with the happy accident that has her pointing to the word “generation”—a little sign of hope with future generations, don’t you think?
