{Project} Wednesday: Acrylic Paint Pens for Quick Card Making

Last week I found my local craft store. Let me just say, it’s been a LONG time since I’ve had a local craft store and I am soooo happy! Like any good crafter, I wandered the aisles looking for new things and came across paint pens.

Yes, acrylic paint in a pen.

So what’s so great about that? First, you can get bright, opaque color in a pen with a variety of nibs…meaning that you can paint broad strokes, angled strokes, or fine lines. Check this out:

Liquitex paint markers

See the different tips? That’s one of the cool things.

The other thing is that it allows you to add bright color to lots of different surfaces: glass, paper, canvas, etc—try them on dark surfaces for a really cool effect. The marker also makes it more accessible, since you can apply the paint with a drawing motion rather than a painting motion, as with a brush.

What I also love? Having the paint in a pen makes it mess-proof. Right now my “studio” is a very tiny living room in an apartment with rental furniture and the last thing I can do is get messy, so these pens are fabulous for anyone creating in a small space. No brushes or clean up needed, yay!

And…you can make a really simple, funky card with these pens—

Acrylic Paint Pens for Quick Card Making, what I used:

Liquitex Paint Markers: Vivid Lime Green, 8-15mm; Bronze Yellow, 2-4mm; Fluorescent Pink, 2-4mm

Black ink

Stamp: Spring Sweeties, Dreamees

Teal, white cardstock

Scrap paper

Acrylic Paint Pens for Quick Card Making, how to do it:

  1. Prime the markers by shaking well, then pressing down the nib to get the paint flowing. Place white cardstock on scrap paper, then draw a line of green paint. Add thin lines of gold, then dots of pink in between. When the green paint is dry, add pink dots. Let the lines be wobbly for a funky, handcrafted effect—or use a ruler for super straight lines.
  2. Stamp “thank you” with black on the bottom left.
  3. Trim to size, mat on teal card and glue to the card front.

So easy! Plus, really little dry time and no clean up. Great for those quick and simple cards.
