Today on Studio SN on You Tube: Cardmaking with Washi Tape Die Cuts!
You know die-cut embellishments make great card focals—and with the addition of some washi tape and ink, simple flower shapes can take on extra dimension and color!
Washi Tape Die Cut Embellishments: What you need—
• Washi tape: Blue dotted, narrow patterned, blue flower
• Stamps: Eclectica ESN04 (PaperArtsy)
• Bodacious Blooms cutting dies (Hot Off The Press)
• Die cutting machine: I use an old-style Cuttlebug, then incorporate a Metal Adapter Plate from Elizabeth Craft Designs into the cutting sandwich
• Chambray Colorbox Chalk ink: Clearsnap
• Bubble wrap
• Black ink
• Cardstock: white, blue, navy, bright blue
• Navy ribbon
• 1″ circle punch
• Self-adhesive pearls
• Foam tape
• Blank white card
Here’s how to make it—
1. Place strips of washi tape onto white cardstock, leaving space between the strips. You don’t want to cover the entire piece, just 5-6 strips will do.
2. Ink the bubble wrap with Chambray and stamp on top of the washi tape. Let dry, then die-cut three flowers.
The die-cutting process will be different depending on your die-cutting machine and if you use cutting dies from another company. I have an old Cuttlebug, and to die-cut Hot Off The Press metal dies, I do the following “sandwich” (from the bottom):
– Plate A
– Plate B
– Cutting dies, ridged side up
– Cardstock, face down
– Metal adapter plate
– Plate C
3. Position the three flowers on white cardstock but don’t glue yet. Stamp the words and script with black ink as shown. Mat the left side of the white cardstock on a strip of blue cardstock, and then navy cardstock. Mat the entire piece on bright blue cardstock. Wrap with navy ribbon and glue to the card front.
4. Adhere the flowers with foam tape. Add self-ahesive pearls to the centers of two flowers and to the bottom left of the blue cardstock strip. Stamp the postmark on white cardstock and punch out with a 1″ circle punch. Punch a circle of navy cardstock and glue the two together, slightly offset. Foam-tape to the largest flower. Tie a knot in navy ribbon and glue as shown.
That’s it—a great technique to have on hand for quick and fun cards that can be adapted to any color combination!
