Today on Studio SN on You Tube: Chalk Stenciling on Text Paper with Embossing Paste!
Remember scrapbooking chalks? If you’ve been in the crafty world for awhile, you probably have a set of these chalks in your stash. (They were sometimes called “decorator chalks”.) Craf-T made the set I’m using, Pebbles also has them. Recently I dusted mine off and thought—hey, they’re still really versatile, especially with so many new mixed-media supplies out there, like embossing paste. And they work beautifully with stencils, too!
What you’ll need:
– Blue decorating chalk: Try Pebbles or Craft-T
– Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 White Embossing Paste
– Punchinella stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop
– Stamps: Eclectica ESN06 from Paper Artsy
– Palette knife
– Text paper
– White acrylic paint: Ranger Snow Cap Dabber
– Patterned paper: Authentique 6″x6″ Essentials (mine is a big paper pad; this particular design can also be found in their Journey set.)
– Brown cardstock
– Brown ink , black ink
– White paper flower, blue ribbon, brad
– Foam tape
– 5″ x 6 1/2″ blank card
– Craft sheet
Here’s how to do it:
1. Paint a piece of text paper with white acrylic paint and let dry.
2. Use the palette knife to shave off a bit of blue chalk onto your craft sheet. Mix with white embossing paste. Place the stencil on top of the book paper and use your finger to apply the blue embossing paste through the circles. Lift the stencil and let the embossing paste dry.
3. Cover your card with brown cardstock. Ink the edges of the patterned paper brown, then glue to the card front.
4. Cut a piece of brown cardstock to 4 1/4″ x 4 3/4″ and ink the edges brown. Stamp the border on the right with brown ink. Cut the stenciled book paper slightly smaller, then tear one long edge and glue it on top.
5. Tie a knot in blue ribbon and wrap around the piece as shown. Add a flower with a brad. Stamp “a secret discovery” with black ink on white cardstock, ink the edges black and attach with foam tape. Glue to the card front.
That’s it! Easy and beautiful!
