Today on Studio SN on You Tube: PaperArtsy Grunge Paste Stenciled Backgrounds!
I love my Grunge Paste just as it is out of the jar—the neutral non-color is great for so many techniques. But I also like having the ability to change the color to suit my project, as I did in this week’s video.
I’m using my new stamp set, Eclectica ESN25, and the PS 144 stencil.
First, brayer your background. I used Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics in Hint of Mint, Pumpkin Soup and Peach Nectar. Let the piece dry—it won’t take long.
Then, tint your Grunge Paste with Autumn Fire paint—scoop a bit of Grunge Paste onto your craft sheet with a palette knife. Squeeze a bit of the paint out as well and blend with the knife. Place the stencil onto the brayered background, either holding it in place or taping it down. Use the palette knife to spread the medium through the stencil, then use the long edge of an old hotel key card to scrape it evenly. Lift the stencil and remove, then let the piece dry.
For the card focal, I first brayered a piece of white card with Hint of Mint, then stamped the branch with black. I spattered a watery wash of paint on top. A simple nested oval die-cut makes it easy to add to the front of the stenciled piece. The postmarks are stamped separately and cut out, then added on top with foam tape.
