{Project} Wednesday: Inking & Stamping with Surfacez on Acetate

Today on Studio SN on You Tube: Inking & Stamping with Surfacez Ink—on Acetate!

(How do these titles get longer and longer???)

Today we’re playing with a quick and easy background technique, one I love because it uses acetate in a fun and new way. If you’re like me, you have acetate in your stash, and if you’re like me you sometimes run out of ways to use it. Surfacez inks are perfect: They’re made for non-porous surfaces, so they dry instantly on acetate. Even better, you can add a spritz of rubbing alcohol and get a very cool spattery effect.

Sara Naumann blog Clearsnap ink and Surfacez

Here’s what you need:

Surfacez inks: Berry, Marmalade, Scarlet, Black (Clearsnap)

– Acetate

– Spray bottle of rubbing alcohol (available at pharmacies and first-aid sections of the grocery store)

– Stamps: HP1005EZ (Paper Artsy)

Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher

– Cardstock: White, yellow, tangerine

– Sheer burgundy ribbon

– Craft sheet

– Glue stick

– Craft glue

Here’s how to do it:

1. Place acetate on your craft sheet or other surface and apply Marmalade ink directly onto it, rubbing back and forth until you have the coverage you like. It will dry immediately; repeat with Berry.

2. Spritz with rubbing alcohol. Let dry.

3. Stamp the flower on the acetate with Scarlet. Clean the stamp and re-ink with Scarlet. Stamp slightly to one side of the first image.

4. Ink the edges of the acetate with Marmelade. Use Black ink to stamp “take flight” on the acetate.

5. Cut a piece of white cardstock slightly larger than the acetate. Place a light touch of glue stick on the back of the acetate, where the stamped image is darkest, then secure to the cardstock. Use the Tiny Attacher to secure.

5. Mat on tangerine cardstock and glue to a yellow card blank. Tie a knot in a piece of ribbon and glue to the base of the flower with craft glue.

Easy-peasy! You can get such a variety of looks depending on the colors you choose and the proportions with which you apply them. And of course, how much you spray with rubbing alcohol!
