Today on Studio SN: Marbelized Paper with Alcohol Ink & Shaving Cream!
This is one of those oldie-but-goodie techniques that’s been around forever—yet I just recently tried it for the first time! I love the soft, pretty results so I thought I’d share it here. Maybe it’s new to you, too, or maybe you’ve colored paper this way in the past. Either way, it’s a super fun—if a little messy—technique and once you start it, it’s a little hard to stop.
Here’s what you’ll need:
– Shaving foam (not shaving gel) You might opt for unscented since most shaving creams are a bit perfume-y.
– Spectrum Noir Alcohol Ink Refills (Crafter’s Companion): TB4, LV2 For those in the US/Canada, they’re also available at Paper Wishes.
– Surface like an old cutting board, paper plate or cookie sheet
– Palette knife or similar
– Glossy cardstock
– Purple matte cardstock: Light and dark
– Pink Swirly Hearts Dazzles™ (Hot Off The Press)
– Heart to Heart stamps (Hot Off The Press)
– Gold Jewel Dazzles™ (Hot Off The Press)
– Black inkpad
– Sheer lavender ribbon
– Blank card
– Paper towel
Here’s how to do it:
1) Spray shaving cream onto your surface and spread out with the palette knife.
2) Squirt on a couple of drops of TB4 and LV2, then gently swirl the color with the palette knife. Make sure the colored area is about the same size or larger than your cardstock.
3) Place your cardstock glossy side down and press into the shaving cream. Swoop it off and scrape off excess foam with the palette knife.
4) Clean off the rest of the shaving cream from the cardstock with paper towel. Repeat marbelizing process with a 2 1/2″ x 3″ piece of glossy cardstock.
5) Trim the marbelized cardstock to 4 1/4″ square and mat onto light purple cardstock, leaving a 1″ border at the bottom. Stamp Hugs & Kisses in black, then add three gold jewel Dazzles™ stickers as shown. Mat again on dark purple and glue to the card front.
6) Mat the smaller cardstock piece on light purple and glue to the card front. Add a large pink heart sticker and a knotted piece of lavender ribbon.
That’s it—easy! To see a video tutorial of this project, pop on by Studio SN and watch the Marbelized Paper with Alcohol Ink & Shaving Cream segment!
Happy Wednesday!
