{Project} Wednesday: Metal Stamped Pendant Card

This week on Studio SN on You Tube: Cardmaking with Metal Stamped Pendants.

This is one of my favorite kinds of projects: A gift-with-card combo. I don’t know about you, but I’m often in search of little, meaningful gifts that don’t break the bank. And living where I do, I also need gifts that are easy to mail. Metal stamped jewelry fits the bill—and presenting a stamped pendant (or other jewelry piece) on a handmade card means I can really create a personalized piece.

And confession: I have about 9,000 of those manila coin envelopes—bought in bulk in a fit of excitement—and I really need to use them up. So here we go!

Oh—and here’s a close-up of the pendant. You will flip when you see how easy this is.

Here’s what you need:

Metal Stamping Kit with Newsprint font: ImpressArt (contains complete alphabet set, hammer, stamping block)

– 3/4″ River Stone SoftStrike™ pendant: ImpressArt

– Stamp Straight™ Tape: Impress Art

– Ball chain

– Black fine tip pen ).5mm)

– Washi tape: MT (teal), WeRMemory (patterned)

– Manila coin envelope

– Green, brown cardstock

– Sheer brown ribbon

– Patterned papers (Hot Off The Press)

(Not sure what ball chain is? You can get them at your local craft store or on Amazon. You’ve definitely seen it before—sometimes clothing tags come on ball chain—but for a visual, here you go—)

Here’s how to do it:

1. To make the pendant: Place the River Stone pendant on the stamping block, then secure with Stamp Straight tape. Mark lines on the tape for the “xoxo”. Hold the metal stamp firmly on the pendant, aligning the tip with the edge of the tape. Strike once. Repeat to stamp the other letters.

2. Use the fine-tip pen to highlight the indented letters. String the pendant on ball chain.

3. To make the card: Cover the card front with map paper. Wrap washi tape around the coin envelope and slip the ball chain inside, allowing the pendant to peek out. Wrap with brown ribbon. Mat on brown cardstock, then on patterned paper and again on green cardstock. Glue to the card front, then add a brown bow.

That’s it! I love this idea for a simple but heartfelt birthday gift, or swap the papers and do it for Christmas!
