Today on Studio SN: Spectrum Noir AquaTint Cardmaking for Bella Crafts!
I’m a regular columnist with Bella Crafts Quarterly, the free online crafting magazine. This summer, my handmade card project features a new papercrafting ink I’m in love with: Spectrum Noir AquaTints. These are liquid watercolors (as opposed to the pans of watercolors you might remember from grade school). They come in jars with pipettes and brushes so they’re super-easy to use. The colors are bright and vivid, and great fun to paint, spatter, brayer and splash onto cardstock to create fantastic effects.

Spectrum Noir AquaTint Cardmaking for Bella Crafts—how to do it:
- Use the pipette to dispense 3-4 drops of yellow watercolor onto a craft sheet. Use the brayer to apply the yellow watercolor across a 4″ x 7″ piece of white cardstock, taking care not to cover the white completely. Let dry.
- Partially fill a pipette with pink watercolor straight from the bottle. Hold it over the brayered cardstock and then shake gently to spatter color onto the background. Repeat the process with purple watercolor.
- When the cardstock is dry, edge the top and bottom of with aquamarine ink. Heat-set the ink (or let it air dry) and then mat onto the blue cardstock.
- Glue the cardstock across the card front.
- Clear-emboss the hearts on a 4″ x 5″ piece of white cardstock. Use a brush to paint it with yellow. Let it dry and then paint it again with diluted pink paint. While wet, paint it with very diluted purple paint. Let it dry and then cut out the hearts.
- Use aquamarine ink to stamp the sentiment on a 1 1/4” x 4” piece of white cardstock. Emboss it with clear embossing powder. Edge the piece with aquamarine ink and heat-set or let it air dry.
- Use the foam tape to attach the sentiment to the card front. Use two layers of foam tape to attach the heart slightly overlapping the sentiment.
- Glue a button at each corner of the card front. Tie a knot in teal ribbon and glue it to the heart as shown.
