Today on Studio SN on You Tube: Stenciling with WOW Embossing Powder!
Today I’m combining two of my favorite crafting supplies on one project: Stencils, and embossing powder. I’ve been getting really excited about all the different kinds of backgrounds you can create with embossing powder, and this stenciling technique is one of my go-to’s for textured backgrounds.
Here’s what you need:
– Glossy white cardstock
– Embossing inkpad: Versamark
– Primary Lemon Regular embossing powder: WOW Embossing Powder. UK peeps, you can visit the WOW UK home page for info; US and Canadians, try the US site.
– 6″x6″ Harlequin Stencil: Crafter’s Workshop
– Baby wipes
– Mirage Papers: Hot Off The Press
– Mirage Die-Cuts: Hot Off The Press
– Button, sheer green ribbon
– Jet Black Archival inkpad: Ranger
– Ticket Stamp: Hot Off The Press
– Spectrum Noir alcohol ink pen: CT4 yellow, available at Paper Wishes
– Cardstock: Black, white matte
– Scrap paper, folded in half
Here’s how to do it:
1. Place the glossy cardstock onto a piece of scrap paper, then squash the embossing inkpad directly on top. Place in the middle of a piece of scrap paper that’s been folded in half and sprinkle with Lemon embossing powder. Tap off the excess, then use the folded paper to funnel the excess back into the jar.
2. Place the stencil on top of the embossing powder. Use the baby wipe to remove the embossing powder through the stencil. Lift the stencil straight off, then heat-set the embossing powder.
3. Mat on black cardstock, then on grey, then black.
4. Cover the card front with black cardstock, then cut a piece of Mirage Papers slightly smaller than the card front. Glue the embossed focal to the card front. Add the Mirage die-cut feather.
5. Tie a bow in sheer ribbon and glue as shown, with a button. Stamp the ticket and sentiment with black ink on white cardstock, cut out and color with yellow pen. Add to the card front as shown.
So easy—and such a cool effect! If you want to see a video tutorial, just pop by Studio SN on You Tube to watch the Stenciling with WOW Embossing Powder segment!
