Today on Studio SN: Vaseline Resist with Clearsnap Pigment Ink!
I adore, adore, adore this Vaseline resist technique! It’s easy, it’s fast, and it uses stuff you most likely have in your house anyway. Plus, it gives a great look and I’m all for that magical combination.
Here’s what you need:
– Vaseline (or store brand of petroleum jelly); you can also use lip balm
– Glossy cardstock
– Colorbox Crafter’s pigment ink in Fire (Clearsnap)
– Stamps: HP1008EZ (Paper Artsy)
– Water spritzer
– Craft sheet
– Bubble wrap
– Cosmetic wedge
– Ranger Jet Black Archival ink
– Black acrylic paint
– Brayer
– Tissue
– Paper flower, black ribbon, black twine
– Foam tape
– Postmark sticker from old envelope (or similar)
Here’s how to do it:
1. Use your finger to apply stripes of Vaseline on your glossy cardstock. Use a light touch—about the same amount you would put on your skin.
2. Squash your pigment inkpad onto your craft sheet. Spritz lightly with water, then brayer over the cardstock. Use the tissue to wipe away the Vaseline, wiping in the same direction as the stripes. When you’ve removed all the Vaseline, use a clean tissue to buff the cardstock.
3. Use the cosmetic wedge to apply black paint to the bumpy side of a piece of bubble wrap. Press gently onto your blank white card. Repeat if desired. Let dry.
4. Use the cosmetic wedge to apply black paint to the edges of the Vaseline piece. Let dry, then glue to the card front. Stamp the branch horizontally as shown. Wrap the card front with black ribbon, adhering the ends at the front of the card.
5. Use foam tape to attach a paper flower to the card front, placing it over the ribbon ends. Tie a piece of black twine around the black ribbon, just to the left of the flower. Stamp the compass on white cardstock, cut out and foam-tape to the flower center. Stamp the ticket on white cardstock, cut out and glue to the right side of the flower.
6. Add a postmark sticker or similar found item to the top right of the card. Note: I clipped this off an envelope I got in the mail—if you don’t have access to something exactly like this, any bit of ephemera will do. I like that it’s horizontal so it balances with the stripes and lines on the rest of the card.
That’s it! Easy! And if you want to see the step-by-step, just hop on over to Studio SN on You Tube to watch the Vaseline Resist with Clearsnap Pigment Ink video!
Happy Wednesday!
