{Project} Wednesday: Watercolor Card with Altenew Sweetest Peas stamps

Hi friends and happy Wednesday!

Today I want to share another quick and easy card using the Altenew Watercolor Pans.

I’m also using a stamp set that’s perfect for watercolor techniques: Sweetest Peas. I love this set, it’s so different and unique…and the open outlines are really custom-made to fill in with color.

This card also features a favorite background technique that I call Pressed Backgrounds. You can do this with watercolors, like I’ve done…or ink pads, dye-based markers, and so on. Hint: This technique and more are in my book, Sara’s Stamping Techniques.)

This card is from the Facebook Live I did earlier this month over on the Altenew Facebook page. Have a look by scrolling down and watching the video here!

You Are the Sweetest, what you need—

Watercolor Pans (Altenew): Sunkissed, Crimson, Citrus Burst, Forest Glades, Frayed Leaf, Puffy Heart, Orange Cream, Coral Berry

Embossing ink (Altenew)

Permanent Black ink (Altenew)

Water mister

Waterbrush (included in the watercolor set)

MISTI stamp positioner (My Sweet Petunia)

Watercolor cardstock

Smooth white cardstock, orange cardstock

Rhinestones

Foam tape

Blank card

You Are the Sweetest, how to make it—

1. Stamp the flower on watercolor card with Permanent Black. Note: It’s important you use a permanent ink rather than a dye-based ink, which can smear easily when you add watercolor.

2. Paint in the flower with Sunkissed, Crimson and Citrus Burst. Add Forest Glades and Frayed Leaf to the base.

3. Let dry. Mist the Crimson pan and use it to edge the watercolor piece. Optional: Load the brush with watery Crimson and spatter the piece lightly. Set the piece aside.

4. Remove Puffy Heart, Orange Cream and Citrus Burst pans. Spritz them lightly, then scribble them across the craft sheet. Spritz with water, then use the brayer to pull the color out across the craft sheet. Press a piece of smooth cardstock into the watery medium. Lift up and if desired, repeat to press and lift to get more color.

5. Let the piece dry, then trim to size and edge with the Coral Berry watercolor pan.

For the rest of the card, I mounted the stamped piece onto smooth white card, then on orange. The bottom of the orange piece is torn; the sentiment is stamped onto smooth card and adhered with foam tape. Add a rhinestone embellishment on either side.
