Happy Wednesday! As you might have noticed, I’ve been on a paper piecing kick, using this simple technique to add depth to my stamped images. This week, I wanted to combine paper piecing with another favorite technique of brayering inky color.
The paper piecing process is the same: cut, layer and glue the same stamped image to create a piece with visual depth. The only difference is that you’ll also create your own inky cardstock to stamp on! You can see it in the flower, the bud and the leaves on this layered image. The blue is watery ink that’s been brayered onto white cardstock, then the image stamped on top—same with the green leaves at the base of the blossom.
You Are Incredible, what you need—
• Stamps: Persian Motifs (Altenew)
• Ink pads: Permanent Black, Ocean Waves, Forest Glades (Altenew)
• Card: White, teal, black
• Black and white baker’s twine
• Stick glue, foam tape
You’ll also need a brayer, water mister and craft sheet and small detail scissors.
You Are Incredible, how to make it—
Stamp the flower and sentiment onto white card. Set aside.
Press blue ink onto the craft sheet. Spritz lightly with water. Roll the brayer through the watery wash, then onto another piece of white cardstock. Let dry.
Stamp the flower two more times onto the brayered cardstock. Cut out one base flower and one bud. Use stick glue to glue them on top of the original stamped image. From the second stamped flower, cut out only the center portion of the base flower and adhere with foam tape on the original image.
Repeat the brayering process with a watery wash of green ink. Stamp the flower, then cut out the leaf portion and glue on top of the original blue flower.
Mat on black, then teal cardstock. Glue to the card front.
Tie a bow in baker’s twine and glue to the flower.
That’s it—enjoy!
