Today on Resin Jewellery Tuesday: Map Ring with ICE Resin!
New to Resin Jewellery Tuesday? Each week we to explore a new project using ICE Resin® from Ranger. These projects are based on the resin techniques covered in my latest book from Search Press, How to Make Resin Jewellery.
This ring is one of those great projects that is so easy to do—and it’s a lot of fun to personalize! Here, I’ve used part of a street map of San Francisco, but you could use maps of your home town, places you’ve travelled, or places that intrigue you. And you don’t have to stop with maps…use sheet music, book paper or even patterned scrapbooking paper. (Just be sure to coat it with Mod Podge or sealer to avoid discoloration.)
Map Ring with ICE Resin, what you need—
- ICE Resin® two-part epoxy (includes cup and stir stick)
- Disposable gloves
- Baby wipes
- Mod Podge or other clear sealer
- Map paper
- Silver adjustable circle ring—18x2mm (inner dimensions)
- 3/4” circle punch
- Foam base: I use Styrofoam packaging—the kind you get when you buy a new coffeemaker. Just make a space in it so the ring band will be held firm with the ring bezel laid flat. If you don’t have a foam base, a kitchen sponge works.
Simple Magenta Ring with ICE Resin, how to make it—
Ti: Before you glue the paper inside the ring, slip it on your finger to make sure you position the text or pattern reading the way you want.
- Punch a circle of map paper. Coat with sealer and let dry. Glue inside the bezel.
- Insert the ring into a foam base. Make sure the bezel is level. Mix the resin, pour into the bezel and let it cure.
Yes, that’s it! The ring base is the same size as our Magenta Ring from last week—I love how the same ring base can be used to create such different styles.
