Simple Stamped Rose with Wood Word

Happy Monday, friends! Here’s a quick, easy, and high-impact design to start off your week.

This card uses simple white-on-white layering, crisp black ink stamping and spattering, plus a pop of bright pink color.

I started by using a dye-based black inkpad to create a watery wash and splatter it onto white cardstock. While that dried, I stamped the rose (from the Altenew Penned Rose set) with black ink, then used the coordinating dies to cut the flower and leaves. The leaves are glued onto the splattered background piece, and the flower is layered with foam tape. The background piece is then glued to the card front.

The word “sweet” comes from the Sweet Hearts Adhesive Wood Veneers. These are dimensional wooden embellishments with an adhesive back. They can be altered in lots of ways, but I found I really liked adding acrylic paint. Here’s a quick little sampler I did so you can see a few other options:

You can color them with:

• Artist Marker Alcohol Markers

• Dye ink (just press the inkpad on the wood—the lighter the ink color, the more you may need to apply)

• Acrylic paint (Any kind! I used two coats)

• Obsidian Black pigment ink and Antique Gold Pigment ink are trickier. Pigment ink does not dry on the wood but remains wet and therefore isn’t a practical choice. I inked these pieces and left them to dry overnight, but still got inky fingers when I touched them the next day! And unlike paper, it’s not recommended to zap it with a heat tool to set the ink—we don’t want any fires. Instead, if you like the density of the black, try black dye ink, or paint. With the metallic gold, opt for paint.

The “You Are” portion of the sentiment is from the Sentiments & Quotes stamp set. I just trimmed the ends into an inverted “v” and added it with foam tape.

After the paint dried on the wood word, I just peeled it off the backing sheet and added it to the card front.

Easy peasy! Enjoy!
