Hello! Today on Studio SN on You Tube: Backgrounds with Ken Oliver Color Burst.
Color Burst is a micro-fine powder that’s designed to work with water to create watercolor effects. Because it’s a powder, you can use it in a lot of different ways. You can easily mix it with water for brush painting, or sprinkle it on a wet or dry background for abstract backgrounds. I love the freeform (virtually mistake-less) approach of abstract, so that’s what I went for here. Take a look!

Backgrounds with Color Burst, how to make it—
1. Use low-tack tape to secure your white matte cardstock to the craft sheet. You’ll want to work with a non-porous cardstock so save the glossy, coated card for another time. Watercolor cardstock also works well. The craft sheet is, of course, to save your table—if you don’t have one, cover your surface with newspaper or similar.
2. Apply a conservative amount of Lemon Yellow Color Burst in areas of the cardstock. Remember the Color Burst is highly concentrated, and that you can always add more later. Repeat to add a bit of Ultramarine Blue to the cardstock. Spritz lightly with water, holding the spritzer bottle about 8″ away and at an angle. Add as much water as you like!
3. Let the piece dry, either air-drying it or speeding up the process with a heat tool.
4. When the cardstock is thoroughly dry, use black ink to stamp the quote in the center.
5. Mat the piece on yellow and blue cardstock and wrap with baker’s twine, then glue to the card front. Add gemstones and buttons as shown. Tie a bow in baker’s twine and glue as shown.
I love this easy, effective way to get bright and beautiful backgrounds! Once you start, be sure to set some time aside to play with different color combinations and amounts of water…you’ll soon see how very many options there are for fabulous cards.
