This month on You Tube, we’re doing a fabulous classic technique: Cracked Glass Embossing!
Today we’re headed into the kitchen for a fun and easy cracked glass embossing technique. The result we’re after is a focal piece like this: Thick, shiny and with delicate cracks that give a vintage look.
Cracked Glass Embossing, what you need—
- Fresco Finish paints in Moonlight, Spanish Mulberry and Eggplant (PaperArtsy)
- Butterfly stamp: HP1203EZ (PaperArtsy)
- Clear Gloss Ultra High embossing powder (WOW! Embossing)
- 5”-wide scallop circle punch
- Embossing inkpad (Versamark)
- Water mister
- Cut ‘n Dry (Ranger)
- Brayer
- Fine tip paintbush
- Heat tool
- Cardstock: brown, lavender, light lavender, pink, white
- Book paper
- Self adhesive rhinestones, small and large
- Brown and white gingham ribbon
- Foam tape
- Blank kraft card
- Scrap paper
Cracked Glass Embossing, how to do it—
- Brayer a piece of white cardstock with Moonlight. Let dry. Use a piece of Cut ‘n Dry to apply Eggplant paint to the butterfly stamp, then stamp on the brayered background.
- Make a watery wash of Spanish Mulberry, then paint in the butterfly. Let dry, then punch into an oval.
- Place the punched piece on scrap paper. Ink completely with embossing ink. Immediately sprinkle with embossing powder. Tap off the excess and heat-set. Repeat 2 more times. Place the piece in the freezer.
- Remove the piece after 3-5 minutes, then gently bend to create cracks. Here’s a close up—
- Use foam tape to adhere to brown cardstock, then mat on lavender. Mount book paper top and bottom on light lavender, then glue across a piece of pink cardstock. Mount on light lavender, then wrap with gingham ribbon. Glue the mounted embellishment on top.
- Stamp “botanical” with Eggplant on a piece of book paper, trim and foam tape to the card front. Tie a bow in gingham ribbon and add as shown. Glue to white cardstock, then to a kraft card blank.
