Welcome to Washi Tape Tuesday! Love washi tape? (Or maybe you have a stash that you want to put to use?) Then join me for tips, techniques and ideas for adding washi tape to your handmade cards!
This quick and easy card design features a super-simple striped washi tape background—perfect for a birthday card, or easily adaptable to any occasion. Just swap out the tape colors and stamped sentiment and you can use it for just about any theme.
The key is in choosing two coordinating tapes to create the striped background. You can choose two patterned designs, or go with a solid as I’ve done here. Both of my tapes are placed on white cardstock, allowing a narrow bit of space between the strips. So easy!
Stripey Background Celebrate Card—what you need:
– Solid and dotted washi tapes: MT Washi Tape
– Birthday Greetings stamps: Hot Off The Press
– Fluorescent Tickled Pink embossing powder: WOW Embossing Powder
– Embossing inkpad
– Green ribbon, white button
– Craft glue
– Cardstock: White, cream, kraft
– Blank white card
Stripey Background Celebrate Card—how to make it:
1. Adhere strips of washi tape to white cardstock, allowing a bit of space between each. Trim the piece into a rectangle and mat on cream cardstock, then on kraft.
2. Stamp and emboss “celebrate” with pink at the bottom corner of the card blank. Glue the matted washi tape piece to the card front.
3. Tie a bow in green silk ribbon and glue to the card front as shown. Glue a button on top.
That’s it—easy!
Love these ideas on using washi Tape. I’ve started using the tape into my card making. The bows and buttons are great for female, but not so much for males. I could leave off the button and bow and add a hammer and dark tape colors to man-up the cards. What do you think about male versions of cards?
Yes, you can definitely make the cards more masculine by simply changing the colors and embellishments. I’ll have a play with some more masculine designs in the next couple weeks. Thanks for the suggestion!
