Welcome to Washi Tape Tuesday! Love washi tape? (Or maybe you have a stash that you want to put to use?) Then join me for tips, techniques and ideas for adding washi tape to your handmade cards!
This quick washi tape background makes a fast and easy card, with plenty of design appeal. And of course, my favorite thing is the versatility of it—you can achieve so many different effects from this layout, based entirely upon your tape choice!
Washi Tape Strips
What you’ll need:
– Washi tape: Black with white dots (narrow), Red with white dots
– Stamp: HPXT03EZ from PaperArtsy
– Two white paper flowers, red brad
– White grosgrain ribbon
– Embossing inkpad, heat tool
– Opaque Vanilla White Regular embossing powder: WOW! Embossing Powder
– Cardstock: Black, white, teal
– Kraft card blank
How to do it:
1. Place strips of washi tape (each about 5 1/2″ long) on white cardstock and trim, leaving a border on the long sides. I’ve done 4 strips of narrow black washi tape, and three strips of red dot washi tape.
(Note: Placing the strips on white cardstock lets the white pattern on the tape stand out crisply—simply placing the tape on the teal card would result in a duller, more muted look.)
2. Trim the ends of the red dot pieces at an angle.
3. Glue all the strips on to a piece of teal cardstock, trimming the black dot tape even with the edges.
4. Mat on white, then black cardstock. Wrap with white ribbon. Layer the two white flowers and add a red brad in the center. Glue to the card front.
5. Stamp and emboss “congratulations” at the bottom of the kraft card, using white embossing powder. Glue the washi tape focal to the card front.
Enjoy…and happy Washi Tape Tuesday!
