WOW! Crafty Hearts with Embossing Powder

Hi friends! This week I have two Valentines-inspired projects to share with you, featuring my Glass of Fizz embossing powder from WOW! Embossing.

The embossing powder is part of a Duo called “Night on the Town” which I laugh about because my nights end at around 9pm, and are definitely not “on the town”! Still, I love the colors… and the fun names!

The colors come together and can be used independently, for backgrounds or stenciling or die cutting (as I’ve done here); and they work beautifully together too. Today I’m putting just Glass of Fizz to work, but both projects can go with either color.

The first project is this sweet Valentine card, with a die-cut window aperture and a stacked heart made from embossed cardstock. Here’s what I used—

Supplies:

Patterned papers: Teacups & Roses paper from Hot Off The Press

10 Square & Scalloped dies: Hot Off The Press

Script Dazzles stickers: Hot Off The Press

Nested Heart Dies

First, let’s talk about the aperture. To make this, you’ll first cover your card front with patterned paper, then use a square die to cut a window in just the card front. Be sure to open the card before placing it in your die-cutting machine!

Then, die cut the same square plus the next layer in the nesting series, with the scalloped edge. Die cut them both from white cardstock, which will give you a scalloped frame. Glue this to the card front.

For the card inside, I first glued patterned paper to the inside back of the card, then added the layered hearts. The hearts are from an old set of nested heart dies I’ve had for about ten years, which I use every February!

I pressed my embossing ink pad onto plain white cardstock, then covered the cardstock with Glass of Fizz embossing powder. I tapped off the excess and heat-set the powder. Then I die cut two hearts, one large and one smaller. The alternating heart shapes are cut from white cardstock.

I layered them up on foam tape.

When you close the card, the heart shows through, nicely framed with the scallop! Here’s a bigger look at the card inside.

On the card front, I added a Script Dazzle. Easy!

The other project is a resin necklace. I had a heart-shaped metal bezel and thought it would look nice with the red embossing powder.

Supplies:

Two part resin epoxy: Art Resin (plus resin supplies like measuring cup, stir stick and gloves)

Heart pendant with loop

Silver chain, three jump rings and a toggle clasp

To make the pendant, simply place the metal bezel on a flat surface. I recommend having a craft sheet or sheet of baking paper underneath to protect your work surface. Then mix the resin according to the manufacturer instructions, adding in a bit of embossing powder to the mixture. Start with a little embossing powder, and add more as you wish. The less embossing powder, the more translucent your resin will be (and the more of the silver back from the pendant will show through.) Take care not to add too much embossing powder, otherwise the resin becomes too thick.

Pour the resin mixture into the bezel and let cure. This will normally take 24 hours.

When the piece was ready, I used a jump ring to attach it to a metal chain necklace. I added a toggle clasp to the ends of the chain.

Also, super simple to make—and makes a great gift for you, or someone you love!

Thanks for joining me today! Have a great weekend!
